David and Jennifer are twins but poles apart in character. Jennifer is
outgoing and popular while David is an introvert obsessed with an old
black and white TV series ‘Pleasantville’. So when an announcement comes
over TV that there will be a marathon of Pleasantville that weekend,
David is excited. His mother would be out of town that weekend and he
could watch it without disturbance. What is more, there would be a
contest, the prize being 1000$! Meanwhile, Jennifer invites a boy home
that evening to watch a music concert on TV.
In the evening, the twins head towards the living room with their eyes
on the TV’s remote control. And what naturally ensues is a fight, the
end result being the remote control shattered to pieces on the floor.
Then the bell suddenly rings and who should enter, but a TV repair man!
He gives them a new remote control and walks out. Again, there is a tug
of war and astonishingly, the twins are transported right into the TV,
as characters of Pleasantville!!
So how do they get out of Pleasantville, where everything is black and
white, where there is no rain or fire, where every road doubles back to
the same place, where the books are blank, where firefighters are for
rescuing cats and everything is supposedly ‘pleasant’? And how will the
twins influence Pleasantville? Will they bring color to it or not?
