Joker (2019) Directed by Todd Phillips Written by Todd Phillips, Scott Silver Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy I have been eagerly awaiting this movie for some time now. Finally watched it yesterday. And what a movie it was! Joaquin Phoenix has given a wonderful performance as the infamous, murderous and mentally imbalanced 'Joker'. As soon as the movie starts, we are swept into a disturbing journey through the mind of Arthur Fleck wherein we get a dose of his pain, his anger, his rage, his helplessness and finally his insanity... No wonder Joaquin Phoenix won the Best Actor Award at the 92nd Academy Awards. So here is the plot outline. Arthur Fleck, a party clown, lives with his mother at Gotham City; a city not going through the best of times. He dreams of becoming a successful stand-up comedian but has never been able to reach this goal. Arthur is depressed, often bullied and beaten up by goons. He just puts up with it silently....

Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner Screenplay by Gilles Paquet-Brenner Starring: Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Chloë Grace Moretz Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn (remember ‘Gone Girl’?), this is a very dark story based on the massacre of a family. But I will have to admit that watching this movie was nowhere near to reading the book. So if you have a choice, read the book. Libby Day has had a very bad trauma as a child. Her mother and two sisters were massacred. What is more, Libby testified that his brother was responsible. For years, Libby Day leads a dysfunctional life using the donations bestowed upon her by kind individuals. When gradually those donations stop, she is forced to come out of her cocoon. It is then that an ardent follower of true crime mysteries promises to pay her if she visits his ‘Kill Club’! Watch this movie on Netflix. #lockdownmovie #netflix

Little Women (2019) Directed by Greta Gerwig Starring Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Emma Watson Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott The seventh retelling of the timeless historical novel, 'Little Women' tells the story of four sisters namely Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. They are poor, but their mother advise them to be generous and kind to others; an advice the sisters try to follow in their lives. Jo, the main character, wants to be a writer. Meg lives for fashion, Amy wants to marry rich and Beth is good through and through. And then one day Jo meets a boy named Laurie, their rich neighbour. The story takes off from there. In contrast to the book, the movie starts from the middle and goes back and forth to tell the story. It also touches upon the hardships women had to face during that time, such as their lack of proper employment opportunities, or the right to have money of their own.
